2. Jim and LaVonne Wilcox celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary
on April 1st. They were married on April 3, 1947.
Jim was born in Veneta in 1925 and has lived there all of his life
except for 7 years in Lorane during the depression and 2 1/2 years
in the Navy.
LaVonne was born in Nebraska in 1928 and has lived in Arkansas, Idaho,
Iowa and other places in Oregon.
As LaVonne says, "when Jim came home from the Navy, his mom sent
him to meet me and from that day forward, we have been as ONE. We
built our first home in Veneta but now we live in a manufactured home on
the same acreage. We had 3 boys so made for a busy life.
They now have their own families and all live close to us. When
everyone comes home all at once, we have 33 in our 5 generations.
Jim was a log truck driver and LaVonne had many crafts including sewing,
oil painting and cake decorating. Together they loved to square
dance, camp, hunt(mostly bow hunting) and hiking in the woods.
After Jim's retirement they took their pickup and trailer to many states
including Canada and 3 trips to Alaska.
LaVonne started bowling as favor to another Cub Scout Den Mother around
1960 at Fairfield Lanes(now Strike City). Jim finally got a break
from the log truck to running heavy equipment and started bowling at
Empire Bowl. When Empire Bowl burned down they found a spot at
Fairfield Lanes. They are still bowling in those same two leagues.
In their words "we both enjoy bowling plus the exercise and the good
friends. They enjoy their life in Veneta, staying home and tending
to their big yard with lots of trees and flowers. They are looking
forward to many more years of BOWLING.
Al Jagger celebrated his 94th Birthday with a pizza party with his
fellow bowlers of the Friday Senior League at Strike City on March 9th.
Al had a hip replacement on August 8, 2011. That hasn't slowed him
down much. He bowled a 165 on December 2nd and started bowling
regularly in the Friday Senior League in January. Not bad for 94
years "young".
